EUROCHAMBRES welcomes the active involvement of both Chambers in building mutual trust and enhancing business relations between both business communities. Arnaldo Abruzzini, EUROCHAMBRES’ CEO, stressed: “Turkish Cypriot companies are key stakeholders in the implementation of EU legislation, since the majority of current legislation adapted to the EU acquis will directly or indirectly affect them. It is therefore crucial that they are informed about the business-related EU acquis and that they receive effective support and advice to adapt, comply and be competitive in preparation for the Cyprus settlement agreement.”
The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) was represented at the meeting and provided useful insights on how the Chambers in Germany assisted companies in former East Germany to comply with the EU acquis after reunification.
Also represented at the meeting, the European Commission affirmed that the EU will continue to actively support the Turkish Cypriot business community in meeting this challenge.
Fikri Toros (Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce) and Phidias Pilides (President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry)
